Children and infants
Whether you’re flying with young children or allowing an older child to travel independently, we’re here to help make the experience smooth and reassuring.
Children aged 12 to 15 can travel unaccompanied on Skybus flights, as long as a few conditions are met:
Before you book:
- A parent or guardian must provide written confirmation that the child is willing and able to travel alone, and that they understand no special assistance will be offered by Skybus during the journey
- The child must be booked as an adult on our website
After booking:
Please email us with the following details so we can update the reservation:
- Booking reference
- Child’s date of birth
On the day of travel:
- The adult dropping off the child must remain at the airport terminal until the flight has departed
We’ll need:
- The name and contact number of the adult collecting the child at the destination
- Contact details for the adult dropping them off
ID Tip: Children under 16 can use a birth certificate instead of a passport when travelling on Skybus routes.
Age guidelines:
- There’s no minimum age for babies flying with Skybus. However, we recommend checking with your doctor if your baby is under 4 weeks old.
What you can bring on board:
Each accompanying adult may bring:
- A carrycot, small collapsible buggy, or car seat
- A baby-changing bag with a reasonable amount of food, milk, and drink for the journey
Cabin items must fit within standard hand luggage dimensions: 55 x 40 x 23 cm
You may also check two of the above items into the hold free of charge.
Can I use a car seat on board?
Unfortunately, car seats are not approved for use on Skybus aircraft.
Milk and baby food:
You’re welcome to bring enough milk or baby food for your journey, with a little extra in case of delays.
Security staff may ask you to taste the milk at airport screening.
- You can pre-book your seats via the Manage Booking section to ensure you sit together.
- If seats aren’t pre-booked, we’ll do our best to seat your family together, but this depends on availability.
- Emergency exit rows cannot be assigned to passengers travelling with infants or young children.
- If your child is travelling with you on the same booking, they won’t need a passport until they turn 16 (a birth certificate is accepted).
- Children aged 12 and over can travel alone, but must carry valid photo ID.
If you have any questions or would like help making arrangements, please contact our Passenger Relations Team.
Flights to and from the Isles of Scilly
Children travelling alone on Skybus flights to the and from the Isles of Scilly
If you need to book flights for unaccompanied children, online booking is not available. Please contact our Passenger Relations Team to make the reservation.
- Under 8 years: Must be accompanied by someone aged 16 or over.
- 8–11 years: May travel alone but require a Young Flyer’s Declaration Form.
- 12–15 years: May travel alone and can be treated as an unaccompanied minor if the parent or guardian requests it.
The Young Flyer’s Declaration Form must be submitted at least 48 hours before departure. The parent or guardian named on the form must stay at the airport until the flight has departed, and the adult collecting the child must be at the destination airport by the scheduled arrival time.
Please note: Unaccompanied minors are not accepted on flights to or from Exeter.
Children’s tickets (2 – 11 years) – 15kg hold luggage allowance.
Infant tickets (0 – 1 years) do not come with hold luggage included, but we are happy to carry a buggy or travel cot for them, free of charge.
Children over the age of 2 will need their own seat. By law, infants younger than 24 months have to stay sitting safely on a grown-up’s lap for your whole journey.
You can’t bring them on-board to use during the flight, but if you need one for your holiday on the islands, we’re happy to take it in the hold as part of your luggage allowance. The Isles of Scilly have very few cars, most families find they have no need for a car seat while they’re on the islands.
